About the Awards
Stuttgart, Germany – 14th March 2012
UBM Canon, organisers of the MEDTEC Europe Exhibition and Conference in Stuttgart are pleased to announce a major new initiative to recognise the contribution made by the European based Medical Device Industry in the promotion of a better standard of life and improved human health around the world.
The MEDTEC EMDT Innovation Awards are the premier awards program for the medical device industry in Europe, recognizing the achievements of medical product manufacturers and for the groundbreaking innovations that are changing the face of healthcare.
The program is open to worldwide companies who have a European base and individuals and teams involved in the design, engineering, manufacture, or distribution of finished medical devices or medical packaging. Awards are offered in each of the following 6 categories:
- Medical Device Industry Design Team of the Year
Judges will be evaluating a number of factors including:
- types of products worked on (diversity, complexity, and so forth)
- engineering and technological challenges that were overcome
- innovation in product design and functionality
- how the product’s design and engineering features reflect functional improvements that improve healthcare delivery
- patient benefits
- benefits to the healthcare system at large (cost effectiveness, for example)
- customer testimonials (timeliness, problem solving, exceeding expectations and so forth)
- Dental Instrument, or Equipment of the Year
- Most Innovative Cardiac Product of the Year
- Critical-Care and Emergency Medicine Product of the Year
Judges will be evaluating a number of factors for all of the above product categories including:
- innovation in product design and functionality
- how the product’s design and engineering features reflect functional improvements that improve healthcare delivery
- patient benefits
- benefits to the healthcare system at large (cost effectiveness, for example)
Entrants should also highlight any design or engineering challenges that were overcome and any benefits that the company has derived from the product in terms of profitability, the capture of a new market segment and so forth.
- Best Medical Device Start-Up of the Year
Judges will be evaluating a number of factors including:
- depth of innovation
- how the product’s design and engineering features reflect functional improvements that improve healthcare delivery
- patient benefits
- benefits to the healthcare system at large (cost effectiveness, for example)
- current or projected commercial performance
- ethical aspects
- Outstanding Contribution to the Industry
This award honours an individual whose contributions have had a demonstrable impact on technological, business and/or cultural advancements in medical devices.
All entered products must be commercially available—able to be ordered or purchased—by 6th November 2011. The entry period for the MEDTEC EMDT Innovation Awards runs from August through October 2011. Entry fees differ according to the date on which the entry is submitted.
Each year’s winning products are publicly announced in EMDT magazine. Winners receive a prestigious award trophy at a special ceremony during the MEDTEC Europe trade fair, held in Stuttgart, Germany each March. Winners will be announced on the evening of March 14, 2012 at a drinks reception from 5.30 to 6pm in room C4 (1 & 2) during MEDTEC Europe 2012 in Stuttgart, followed by the exhibitor party drinks in the foyer.
